 |
Introduction |
Millions
of dollars are lost every year through the destruction of private
and public property, and the theft of valuable machinery and equipment.
Consider not only the cost of replacing stolen or damaged goods,
but the added expense of repairs to premises where forced entry
has occured.
A composite panel of selected materials combined with special technology
and adhesive Guardian V.R Board all but eliminates the risk of breaking
any entry.
The possibilities and application are endless:-
-
Schools
- Shops
- Service
Stations
- Pharmacies
- Surgeries
- Homes
- Prisons
- In
fact anywhere that might be considered a target for vandals and
thieves.

VR Board |
Guardian
V.R Boards makes it a great deterrent to breaking in (or out).
Extensive testing has shown that Guardian V.R Board is virtually
indestructible. Testing using typical burglary tools of trade, Guardian
V.R Board proved extremely difficult to penetrate.
After numerous blows from both a sledgehammer and a mattock comparatively
little damage was sustained- even total destruction of the panel
allowed no penetration.
Entry into any premises constructed using Guardian V.R Board would
be next to impossible.
Guardian V.R Board wont burn, is impervious to moisture, and is
extremely durable. When you add up the benefits, Guardian V.R Board
is far superior to any alternative on the market today.

Test Results |
New
and improved technology is constantly being introduced to this product
and often it is years before definitive information can be given
however we can report Guardian V.R Board composites are the most
tested security panels of a like nature both in-house, in approved
environment and approved testing laboratories on the market in Australia
today. No product making similar claims can produce the test results
that Guardian V.R.Board has researched and accessed.
Here
is some of the results-
- AS1530-3-1989
Ignitability index 0 Range 0-20
Spread of flame index 0 Range 0-10
Heat evolved index 0 Range 0-10
Smoke developed index 1 Range 0-10
- Sound
transmission is low- reflection 98%
- Sound
attenuation 30db based on a relatively thin composite
- "Approved
for Embassies" by Government Department
- Cyclone

Hard body (Axehead) Impact Test
-
Oxy Acetylene Cutting Test
- During
a series of flexural strength tests the fibre cement did not separate
at the interface
- During
a series of test the bond was always stronger than the fibre cement
itself.
- Guardian
V.R Board will work well motion sensors using microwave and passive
infrared patterns with warning systems. The warning systems can
be wired to a phone, computer monitor, Police station and a siren
sitted.
- Three
point flexural strength apparatus was used to test produced this
report-
The adhesive strengths between steel and fibre cement was much
greater than interply strength of the fibre cement. Over all density
of the material is greater than compressed fibre cement.
Strength is comparable to compressed fibre cement
The bond at that point was always stronger than the fibre cement
itself showing that the adhesive is doing its job well.
- Recent
test in May 1987 directed towards NATA endorsement under AS2343
parts 1 & 2 indicate compliance and certification will be
soon.

History |
 |
VR Board |
A
similar composite product was developed in 1987, to satisfy a need
of the State Works Dept., Qld., to prevent breaking and entering,
vandalism and theft in and around schools in that State.
Since that time like products have been used in wall sheeting internally
and externally in schools, police stations, courthouses, watchhouses,
youth correctional centres, security rooms, internally in High Schools
lining of equipment rooms in Telecom Exchange buildings, walls, ceiling
and floors of "safe rooms" in Consulate staff accomodation
overseas.
Subsequently more and more applications are developing, as vandalism
appears to be on the increase. BHP
and other major Australian public companies are working with Guardian
in research and advice, which will flow on to both users and specifiers.
Considerable
interest has been shown in Europe and Asia and Guardian have access
to many companies who can use the product and aid in improved technology.
The Club movement and entertainment industry can benefit from the
incorporation of Guardian V.R. Board in their building programs in
areas where large amounts of cash and valuables are stored.

What the Manufacturer Says |
"The
special feature of the Guardian V.R. Board is that it deprives impending
perpetrators of a quiet and quick penetration into a building."
"Where
fibre cement is used Guardian V.R. Board accepts any decorative
finish. It is available in a variety of thickness to suit applications,
from vandal resistant panels for schools and public buildings, to
security shielding for prisons."
"It
is not possible to break through this panel without creating excessive
noise for long periods of time."
"Guardian
V.R. Board will meet a security need which compressed fibre cement
is unable to do."

Fixing Suggestions/Methods |
Rondo
Studs:
In one typical test the following system was employed when used
in conjunction with Rondo Studs ranging from 0.6mm to 1.2mm thick
-
Deutsher
- 8/18
x 35mm self-embedding head "Wing Tek" screws.
- 8/18
x 25mm extended point screws.
Timber
Frame:
In another when fixing to a timber frame -
- Buildex
Type 17 No. 10-12 x 30mm were used.
NOTE
- Panels should be pre-drilled.
Stud
Spacing:
600mm centres maximum
Fixing
Spacings:
200mm around perimeter with minimum edge clearance 15mm. 400mm through
centre of sheet.
Single
Sided:
Guardian V.R. Board for internal wall sheetings, V.R. Board manufactured
from a single sheet of F.C. sheet bonded to a sheet of steel may
be fixed direct to timber or metal framing at 600mm stud centres
maximum. In the case of an existing wall sheeted with either F.C.
Sheeting or plasterboard, single sided V.R. Board may be fixed directly
over the existing sheeting.
Joins
may be butt jointed or joined with a PVC joint mould or desired
strip. Single sided strip is not recommended in a salt air environment.
Double Sided:
Guardian V.R.Board: Where the wall is to be sheeted is the external
wall of the building, the sheets must be manufactured from a fibre
cement sheet bonded to each side of a sheet of steel of the specified
thickness. The purpose of double-sided sheets is to create a stable
panel, which will not distort under varying surface temperatures
on either side of the panel. This requirement is also necessary
when V.R. Board is used as a ceiling sheet.
Cutting:
I t is recommended that as much cutting as possible be carried out
with a diamond blade wet cut saw bench in a factory environment.
When
sheets are site cut, the edge of the cut zincanneal must be painted
with metal primer.
Pre-drilled
and cut to size sheets can be supplied.
Site
Cutting Comment:
- Electric
saw equipment with metal cutting blade - The panel is able to
be cut using this method, but cutting is slow and dust may cause
concern. Also disc life is reduced.
- Electric
saw equipped with a diamond cutting disc (wet cut) - the panel
causes damage to the diamond blade and cutting is very difficult.
Therefore this method is not acceptable for site cutting.
- Electric
jig saw equipped with a metal cutting blade (AEG - 254063 or BOSCH
T119A) - cutting is very easy, but blade life is reduced.
- Electric
jig saw equipped with a ceramic cutting blade (Remington SB 130)
- the blade was unable to cut the panel.
Treatment
of Screw Heads:
All screw heads are to be countersunk and filled with Ciba Geigy
L.C. 125 Araldite or similar and sanded flush.
Suggested
Applications:
Vandal resistant panels for schools and public buildings. .9mm could
be considered, .9 and 1.1mm could be considered for Security sheeting
for Government buildings, Police Stations. Watch Houses, Court buildings.
1.5 or 1.9mm is generally used for Prisons.
